We had an amazing time on the Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu. It was definitely a challenge of both the physical and mental kind, but the end result once you reach the top of the summit on day 2, and again once you finally reach Machu Picchu are indescribable. Honestly I was initially a little nervous before starting. I was worried about the level of difficulty of the trail, but the trek is strategically planned to provide breaks and meals when needed. I would consider myself of moderate physical condition, and was above average for completion times for each leg of the trek - so don't let intimidation scare you!!
With regards to the crew, the porters were amazing! They went above and beyond to provide every luxury you can imagine for a backpacking hike through the mountains. And guaranteed, each time you come across them on the trail they were always laughing and smiling! Finally, our guide was awesome, he provided the encouragement when required and was always upbeat, positive and informative! At times it was a little difficult to understand the English, but he always made sure he was clear and understood before moving on!
If you are even considering doing the trek go for it, you won't regret it!!
