I had an unforgettable time during my trip on the Inca Trail. Booking the trip was incredibly simple. Inca Trail Reservations (specifically Mabel) took care of all of our transportation to and from all locations and answered all of our questions along the way.
Day 1 of the hike was exciting. It was challenging in certain parts, but the views made it enjoyable. Paul was an awesome tour guide who provided encouragement, tips, and comic relief along the way. At night, we arrived to a camp site that was already setup for us. The meals during the trek were amazing. There was a wide variety of foods and everything was expertly prepared and delicious.
Day 2 was a huge challenge. The day started off fine, but making it to Dead Woman's Pass was one of the hardest things I've ever done. The altitude was really getting to me at that height. Paul and the whole team were very encouraging and provided a lot of support.
Day 3 was challenging in a different way. Most of it was spent going down and after a couple of hours, my legs were exhausted. We got this day as well, so it made it a bit more difficult. We woke up on Day 4 early in the morning for the beautiful hike to the Sun Gate. Paul helped us to navigate the most dangerous parts of the trail. The first sight of Machu Picchu was amazing. To see such a beautiful city perched between the Andes was something I'll never forget.
In the end, even though the hike was very physically demanding and very difficult at parts, Paul, the porters, the chefs and the extraordinary views of Machu Picchu and the mountains, made it all worth it.
