Inhale through your nose, exhale through your mouth

A friend and I traveled to Peru to celebrate our 30th birthday in an adventurous way. The 5 day Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu did not disappoint.

The views were incredible and unlike anything I could have ever imagined. From snow covered mountains to zip-lining over the rocky river, the scenery was breathtaking. Altitude is no joke and I highly suggest getting to Cusco at least 2 days in advance, along with the altitude medication you can pick up at the local pharmacy. It was not easy, and was probably one of the most challenging things I have ever done. My feet have never been so tired, but it was all worth it.

I would suggest bringing many clothes to layer. The beginning of the trek is very cold and the temperature warms up from day 3-5. Our guide Victor did not disappoint. He was so accommodating, fun and made everyone feel like family.

If you are up for an adventure, break in your hiking boots and book a trip to Machu Picchu with this trekking company.
