The Salkantay Trek was an experience that I will never forget! Despite the rain, the foot-deep mud, and the bug bites, I had such an amazing time. I live at sea-level and was concerned about the altitude, but it was absolutely no problem.
Our leader, David, was wonderful. He took care of our needs, was mindful to help the entire group, and was a true pleasure to be around. If any of us had a question or concern, he was quick to answer and help in any way he could.
The food was outstanding (I am a vegetarian, which caused no problems), and the cooks/horsemen were professional, courteous, and kind. We had more food than we needed, and it was both healthy and delicious.
Day 2 was definitely the most difficult considering the weather, but the view from the top was well worth the suffering.
The obvious pay-off was the final push to Machu Picchu, in the silent dark morning. After climbing the endless stairs to the gates, we were rewarded with one of the most spectacular views in the world. Words simply cannot describe the magical and mystical feeling you will experience when you arrive. I definitely recommended Salkantay.Org
It was a magical trip… one I shall cherish always.
