My experience on the Salkantay trip was exactly what I was looking for. For 3 days we hiked through the beautiful Andes mountains. First we climbed up to the peak of Salkantay at 15,000 feet, so close to the snow-capped mountains you felt like you could reach out and touch them. Then we way our way into the forest and jungle where the weather was warmer and we enjoyed encountering a wide variety of plants, clear streaming rivers and waterfalls, and wildlife. The hike was had a good balance of physical challenge with uphill treks mixed in with flatter terrain. The entire way we enjoyed magnificent views. Finally on the 4th day we reached the pinnacle of the whole trip: Machu Picchu. And it was worth all the sweat and sore feet to get there! The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable and the horseman and chefs were also excellent. You will not be underfed on this trip! The staff was also very helpful and accommodating when I was booking the trek. Overall it was a wonderful experience and I recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about Peruvian and Incan culture, camp under beautiful star-lit skies, hike the Andes and visit Machu Picchu. Thank you for a great time!
