My parner and I walked the Salkantay trek in Peru in September. We booked directly through Inca Trail Reservations - Salkantay.org, the communication was excellent, reply rate to emails was quick and informative.

Conditions on the trails were ideal, the camping gear provided was top notch. Transport to the start of the walk was great.

The first day we camped bellow a snow capped mountain which was amazing but fresh of the evening. We did an afternoon walk up the above mountain to a lake which was beautiful, the walk was a real test for day 2 which was the tough day.

Day 2: We were up at 5 am for 6:30 am start on the trails. There were two major hills along the way, but well worth the view once we reached the summit after 3 hours to 4600 m. The descent was wet and foggy which was a little disappointing as we couldn't take the views in.

Day 3 was a much easier day than 2. We took in the beautiful scenery as we descended down to a much lower altitude. We picked passion-fruit off trees, and avocados as we walked through local villages. The end of the day was well rewarded in Santa Teresa with a dip in some amazing hot springs. A big highlight of the trek. We also did a zip line in a valley between 2 valleys which was amazing also.

Carlos our guide from Cuzco was exceptional. He was a very informative mountaineer with plenty of knowledge of the area, areas we passed, Peru in general and spoke great English. He was great banter and really made the tour a memorable one. He loved his rice and would highly recommend him for any trek or Peruvian adventure.
