The trail I took followed the traditional Inca Trail . It led me through a beautiful Urubamba River and a number of archaeological sites. The experience is unique. It is not only the views are breathtaking, but also the scale.
Another dimension of the hike is the high elevation of the trail. It goes from under 3,000 km up to over 4,000 km. It is quite challenging not only from elevation point of view but from distance. With the guided tour along the way, it is quite pleasant and relaxing.
One thing could make your experience would be the weather. On the day we enter the Machu Picchu, it rained, then thunder and turned into hails.
