Our 50th birthday present to each other

We arrived in CUSCO two days before our trek to Machu Picchu started in order to acclimate our bodies to the altitude. The town of Cusco has many opportunities for fun. The night before our trek we met with our guide Manuel for an informational meeting. Manuel picked us up the next day and the adventure began. My wife and I are both 49 years old and found the hills, both going up and down very challenging. Somehow we managed to complete the 4 day trek. Along the way we met very interesting people and were amazed at the porters ability to do what they do. We felt very lucky to have a guide as fun and informative as Manuel. He paced our group just right and told us historical facts along the way. I probably brought to much stuff because my wife and I became known as the big pack people. Next time I will bring less stuff and train a little more before hand. We really enjoyed the experience that Inca Trail Reservations provided for us and would not hesitate to use them again for this type of vacation. Mike Leibensperger
