The Salkantay trek was my first trek. At first, the idea came from my friend Marion, who was living in Argentina and wanted to discover Peru. We had to wake-up at 4 am in the morning to join our “family†as Carlos, our guide, named it.
We were eight: the Russian team with Anna and Dacha, the Holland team with David and Heidy, the Taiwanese team with Kaken and Annie and us, the French team.
The first day was not so hard. But, the night was the coldest I never know. In the second day morning, the family shared the breakfast with the same impression: we were all tired but we knew that we had to climb hard to the Salkantay pass at 4629m. 800m to climb. My highest pass! We did it ! We camped in the rain forest. As every morning, we woke up at 5:30 the third day. Mate de coca and breakfast for everyone, and the departure was done for a new expedition.
We crossed the rain forest to Santa Teresa and finally we discovered the Hot Springs... Wonderful ! The night was the fire party night and we danced all together with the Macarena song... epic ! At last we climbed to the Machu Picchu with the family. Started at 5 am and arrived at 5:50 am. Good job !
