I just got back from the 4 day trek and a night in Aguas Calientes. I am very happy that I took part in this trip. I already miss the team, the landscape, the meals which we huddled around two small tables in a tent, and even camping in our tents. The best part about it was the moment we reached the sun gate which overlooks the Machu Picchu archaeological site. You have a sense of achievement which is indescribable. My calves became sore from a lot of downhill trekking but it really didn´t matter with the beautiful scenery all around. It was also a great feeling to have done this with a group of people who also came in this trek with the same ambition. Our group was 14 people and it was really the right amount to share the great moments and also the tough moments together. It is really hard nowadays to get away from the internet, the phone line, the tv, and all of the modern culture, but it is a great feeling to just immerse yourself in nature for a few days. Macchu Picchu would not have been the same if I just arrived via bus and train. My husband and I also decided to carry all of our things, which made the trip and trek harder but all the more worth it. It is a story in my life which I will treasure forever.
