When I agreed to hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, I had no idea about the adventure I was about to undertake. After months of not preparing as much as I should have, it was time for me to begin this journey with my lifelong friend and her mother. The night before our trek began, we met our guide and found out the basic plan for the next few days. From the moment we were picked up from our hotel to begin hiking, I knew it was going to be an unforgettable experience and I was absolutely correct.
Day 1 was a bit slower than everyone expected, but the guides did a wonderful job of making sure everyone in our group was well taken care of and was comfortable moving at their own pace so that they would be able to complete the entire trek without injury and while having fun. The porters were always an awesome encouragement and fed us very well. The only surprise was that each day started a little earlier than I'd originally expected, but it was good to start that early so that everyone in the group had plenty of time to finish the hike each day.
Overall, I loved the experience and can hardly believe it's over. I think I got a great value for the money I paid and am so glad my friend sent me that text saying, "Hey - do you wanna go to Machu Picchu?"
