Having now finished, all I want to do is recommend the experience to all my friends! The prospect was daunting, however day-by-day we not only made it through, but we loved every second. The Incas have created a beautiful place, steeped in history and it is wonderful to visit and learn. However, what perhaps made this trek so good was the thorough and friendly service provided by Inca Trail Reservations .
The porters overwhelmed us with their friendliness, the chef blew our minds with exceptional 3-course meals (which far exceed those you'd find in the restaurants of Cusco - somehow! They made Lydia a delicious birthday cake with 15 minutes notice!?), and the guides, (Jesus and Alfredo) lead us superbly; the history they taught us, combined with their great sense of humor and patience made us feel so comfortable.
Driving away from Machu Picchu at the end was a sad journey because we had just finished one of the best experiences of our lives.
