I am a backpacking guide in the US and thought it was about time for me to try out being a participant. Gosh do they make it easy! From the time I was picked up at the airport to when they dropped the group off back in Cusco I felt completely taken care of the entire tiem. Our guides were knowlegeable and had plenty to share at each ruin we stopped at and spoke both english and spanish very well (they even taught me a little quetchua, the native incan language). The food is expertly prepared by the professional chef and I can not say that there was ever a time that I left a meal still feeling hungry. The porters take a load off your back making sure that you have everything you need to make your 4 day trek a comfortable one.
With that said, as someone who hikes regularly at different altitudes, this was not an easy hike. There is a lot of going up up up at high altitude and a lot of working your knees going down steep steps for up to 5kms at a time. This is Not to discourage anyone, the views are consistantly breath taking and make the huffing and puffing worth it! I just highly recommend training a bit beforehand.
Definitely a bucket list item that needs to be checked off!!!
