Climate

La Paz has a dry season (roughly May to September) and a wet season (roughly December to March). The treks that drop into the Yungas cross very wet forest: SERNAP gives 1,000 to more than 3,000 mm of rain a year for Cotapata, the protected area El Choro crosses. In the wet season expect slippery paving, high rivers and washed-out sections on the treks, and more fresh snow and cloud on the glaciers.

Cultural Context

El Choro and Takesi are old paved routes between the Altiplano and the Yungas valleys. They are often called Inca trails, but that attribution is not confirmed for Takesi, and El Choro is not part of the section of the Qhapaq Ñan that UNESCO lists in Bolivia (Desaguadero-Viacha). Communities along El Choro collect a trail fee and run the campsites.
