Machu Picchu’s 5,600 Daily Visitor Cap Runs Until November 2

What changed on June 19

Peru’s Ministry of Culture, through its Cusco directorate (DDC Cusco), raised Machu Picchu’s daily admission cap from 4,600 to 5,600 visitors on June 19, 2026. The higher ceiling marks the high season and runs until November 2, 2026.

The same 5,600 cap also applies on January 1, April 2 to 5, and December 30 and 31. Outside those dates the lower cap applies; until June 18 it was 4,600 a day. The limits come from Ministerial Resolution 285-2025-MC, published in El Peruano on November 1, 2025.

Online and in-person tickets

Each day, 1,000 tickets are sold in person at the DDC Cusco ticket office in Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes), for entry the next day. The rest are sold online at tuboleto.cultura.pe. Since May 7, once the next day is sold out, the office can sell tickets up to three days ahead; see our post on in-person tickets.

More daily places ease the peak-season scramble but do not end it. Tickets for June to August still sell out, so book early.

The circuit and entry rules still apply

The higher cap does not change how visits work. Entry is still by circuit, with a fixed route and a timed entry slot, so plan your day around the slot on your ticket.

For trekkers, the entrance ticket is a separate, capacity-controlled purchase. Individuals can buy it at tuboleto.cultura.pe, but an Inca Trail permit cannot be bought there: it has to be booked through a licensed tour operator.

What it means for trek planners

The Salkantay, Lares and classic Inca Trail routes all finish at Machu Picchu, where entry is capped and sold by circuit. The extra 1,000 places a day help when a trek has a fixed finish date, but only until November 2.
