Tayrona closes for 15 days from 19 October
Parque Nacional Natural Tayrona, on Colombia’s Caribbean coast near Santa Marta, will not admit visitors from 19 October to 2 November 2026. Access resumes on 3 November. Ecotourism services in the park are suspended during the 15-day closure.
This is the last of the park’s three scheduled closures in 2026. The other two scheduled closures ran 1–15 February (the Kugkui Shikasa period) and 1–15 June (the Saka Juso period).
Why the park closes
The closure comes from agreements between Parques Nacionales Naturales de Colombia and the Arhuaco, Kogui, Wiwa and Kankuamo peoples of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. It falls in Nabbatashi, a period in the cultural calendar of these four peoples for spiritual work at sacred sites, including traditional offerings known as pagamentos.
The pause also gives beaches and other ecosystems time to recover. According to the Santa Marta outlet El Callejero, Parques Nacionales and the regional environmental agency Corpamag plan cleaning and restoration work on beaches and other ecosystems during the closure.
What it means for travellers
If your trip includes Colombia’s Caribbean coast, keep Tayrona days outside 19 October to 2 November. If you have already booked a stay inside the park for those dates, contact your provider, because no visitors are admitted. A visit from 3 November onwards falls after the closure. For wider trip planning, see our Colombia destination guide.
For reference, Tayrona’s 2026 entry fee for foreign non-residents from outside the Andean Community is COP 81,000 in low season and COP 96,500 in high season, according to Blu Radio.
This applies until November 2, 2026. We will update this post if it changes.
