Inca Trail trek

The porters and guide were really really good. The food was great and we were always full ! Our guide had to leave before our Machu Picchu tour but was replaced by another guide. Unfortunately it was raining (a lot) and our Machu Picchu tour didn't take as long as we would have hoped but it was still great.

Haku Haku Machu Picchu

The last time I went on an overnight hike was over 10 years ago. I was a little apprehensive to do the Inca Trail hike because I heard that it wasn't easy to complete. Now after 4 days, through sunshine, cold weather, heavy rainfall and hail I feel it is worth every bit.
The Inca Trail takes you through ... Continue Reading

My taste of the Incan life

Let me begin by saying that this was the most fun trek of my life. Our adventure started with a relatively easy day where we spent the night in a quaint village. After the first day the trek began in earnest with a very difficult hike to Dead Woman's Pass. However our guide had prepared us well and was encouraging ... Continue Reading

Carlos’ champion hikers

The Salkantay Trek was truly amazing. We went the first week of September, 2014. Our guide Carlos was great. He proved to be an all-star hiker as he ran back and forth along the trails at various times on our trip if our group became separated. He also showed us lots of wildlife and plants that we wouldn't have noticed ... Continue Reading

Genial

Continue Reading

Go4it !

What a great time we had ! The landscapes were wonderful and the arrival on Machu Picchu was breathtaking. We actually enjoyed every part of the trek and we were also amazed by the job done by all the porters. And what to say about the food? It was absolutely delicious ! Rich, varied and in great quantity: perfect ! ... Continue Reading

Difficult but worth it

The weather did not hold up every day, but on the final day when we reached Machu Picchu it was perfect. Well worth the trip and money. The hike is very difficult (especially the second day) but we felt super accomplished after summiting a nearly 15,000 ft mountain. Great hike.
The worst part was the bathroom situation: not always ... Continue Reading

Get fat hiking :)

First off, the food was incredible ! We were overwhelmed by the service and generosity of the porters and staff. We ate authentic Peruvian cuisine and enjoyed it all. Waking up to a hot cup of tea every morning in our tent was fantastic.
The trek itself was tougher than I expected, but I had been training at sea ... Continue Reading

Salkantay

This trip completely lived up to expectations. Our guide, Marcos, was excellent. He was knowledgeable about the trail and fully briefed us every day. Our porter was also excellent and accommodated every request. But best of all was our cook Isaac. We were amazed at the food every meal. It was always a surprise and very tasty.
The campsites ... Continue Reading

Surreal Salkantay

This was the trip of a lifetime ! We had a great experience and felt adequately prepared for our hike by our guide. Each day he would brief us with how many hours we would hike and the difficulty we could expect.
Each day when we arrived at our campsite, it immediately felt like home thanks to the assistance ... Continue Reading

Salkantay, pronounced Sol con tie !

I had a great time on the Salkantay Trek. Although I have to say, the second day really is tough. Of course, you can rent a horse if you want. Some of their info is a bit outdated, though. For instance, I brought water purification drops which turned out to be unnecessary since there are a lot of little shacks ... Continue Reading

Salkantay ain’t no joke

I had an amazing time on the Salkantay trail. All the training and exercising and endurance I prepared with did not factor in the altitude in the equation. Our guide Carlos was great, slowing down to rest when I was winded, making me celery and lemon tea when I got a fever. Horse option for the injured and weak.

What an adventure !

We had such a fun time on the Salkantay trek - every day gave us a totally different experience!
I wanted to feel challenged and this trek gave me that level of difficulty but I could always see the end in sight. It was a thrill to see the snow, then the amazing craggy rocks and then jungle - ... Continue Reading

Walking a sacred path

Our Salkantay trek with Salkantay.org / Inca Trail Reservations was a truly incredible experience. This trek was a great way to see the many beautiful scenarios of Peru. Our guide Marcos was an excellent guide and personalized our trek to our requests. He took time to explain interesting facts about Peru, Inca history, and pointed out different flora and fauna. ... Unforgettable trip

The trek was very difficult, but very rewarding! The summit of Mt. Salkantay was absolutely breathtaking. It brought tears to our eyes. Our cook, porter, and guide Marcos were all great.
